Which sections of my manuscript and what other documents can you edit/exclude? What is included in the word count?

Editable sections / Included in the word count of research papers:

- Main paper (title, abstract, introduction, results, discussion)
- Methods
- Figure and table legends/captions
- Supplementary information
- Cover letter (if you wish us to edit this)
- Tables containing descriptive text, if applicable

Uneditable text / Not included in the word count (but we’ll often comment on them):

- References
- Author information
- Tables containing anything other than descriptive text
- Images
- Other uneditable material
- For grant applications, the text is categorized in a similar way to the above.

When you upload your text, please include all sections, including uneditable text, so that our editors can examine your work in full.

Note: we can sometimes use certain sections of the editable text for reference only and not for direct editing. If you would like us to do this, please request this in the comments box when you upload your text.
